The Thread of Voices: A Collective Performance on Women’s Narratives in Conflict
On November 30, 2025, at Logge dei Lanari – Spazio Comune in Perugia, Rete Donne delle Diaspore presented the collective performance “The Thread of Voices – Women’s Narratives in Conflict”, as part of the exhibition “War: Artists Against”.
Open to the public, the initiative emerged from the desire to say no to violence against women, particularly in conflict contexts, and to amplify women’s voices in spaces where they are often excluded. It is estimated that women take part in only 1 out of 10 peace negotiation tables. In 2024, 17% of women worldwide lived within 50 km of a conflict zone, facing severe consequences such as increased maternal mortality, gender-based violence, school dropout, and reduced access to livelihoods.

Organized in collaboration with local associations and the Consulate of Ecuador, the performance became a space for expression and reflection on women’s experiences of war. It gave voice to stories, memories, and perspectives that are often marginalized in public narratives. Participants contributed to building a collective narrative capable of reflecting complexity and a plurality of perspectives.
The participation of Rete Donne delle Diaspore is part of a broader effort to promote the active role of women with migrant backgrounds in local cultural and social contexts, fostering dialogue between local experiences and the international dimension.
The initiative also strengthened collaborations with associations and institutions, reinforcing the role of Rete Donne delle Diaspore as an active contributor to cultural production and to the creation of spaces for participation.
