March 6, 2026 – The Female Face of Migration in Umbria: Data, Stories, and Perspectives
On March 6, 2026, Rete Donne delle Diaspore took part in the presentation of the Statistical Dossier on Immigration 2025 in Perugia, held at Palazzo Donini — an important moment to reflect on the realities of people with migrant backgrounds in Umbria. The data and stories presented offered a clear and meaningful picture of vibrant and evolving communities.
In Umbria, foreign residents number over 90,500, accounting for approximately 10.6% of the regional population. One striking element is the prevalence of women: they represent 53.4% of the migrant population, making their presence not only significant in numbers, but central to the social and cultural fabric of the region. Second-generation youth also play an important role: minors make up around 17.5% of the foreign population, bringing energy, vitality, and future perspectives to the region.
The dossier also highlights how integration processes are taking shape in concrete ways. In 2024, for example, 3,884 foreign residents acquired citizenship — a clear sign of active participation in the collective life and social fabric of the region.
Our reflections
It was meaningful to see migrant women sitting at the discussion table, visibly represented and actively contributing with their experiences, skills, and perspectives. Their presence matters: making it visible is already a form of transformation. Recognizing the active role of diaspora women in the Umbrian social fabric is a step towards stronger and more aware communities.
